About
Photophob
… is an Austrian one man music project by me, Herwig Holzmann, located somewhere between Ambient, Broken beats, Electronica and IDM (“Intelligent Dance Music“), which is funny, because my music is neither very intelligent, nor dancable. I don’t want to make you dance, I want to make you dream. For me, an album is not just a collection of 10 to 20 tracks i made in a certain period of time. It’s not meant as proof of what I am or am not able to do. I don’t care if you think I am a genius or a dilletant.
My interest in music starts at the point where you forget to think about the musician, the equipment, the prowess or dilletantism of the people involved. My interest in music starts at the point where you, the listener, start to associate, to imagine, to build pictures and stories in your head, provoked by the sounds, rhythms and melodies you hear.
Music provides the means to provoke your imagination.
Aliases
I work and release music under several aliases. Back in 2000 I started producing electronic music as Macon Tights, but switched to Photophob when things got more serious. While Photophob has turned out to be my main alias (focused on IDM/breakbeat oriented stuff) I also release music under my real name Herwig Holzmann (mostly Ambient/experimental music), as well as under Das Gritli Moser (dark&dirty horror/Breakcore operas).
laridae
… is the netlabel I co-founded and now run together with Stefan Aigner aka Firnwald and Bernhard Hansbauer aka red.chamber. Since 2004 we support new talented acts and artists by releasing their music for free on the web, focusing on melodic IDM/Electronica, Ambient, Post Rock and whatever we think is good music.
